Royal Malaysian Navy Officer….a chance of a lifetime

30 th June 2006 I received a letter from Angkatan Tentera

Malaysia

calling me for an interview and selection for NAVY Officer which will take place on 18-28 June 2006 at Kem Lapangan Terbang Sg Petani Kedah. Pretty surprising cz when I applied, I was already 28 exceeding by 1 yr to the maximum age to join the service. Maybe its due to the time taken to finish my Masters they would consider that.

I was in dilemma at first because that period I’m supposed to attend a course for my confirmation in my current career. The interest to become NAVY Official bloomed when I did my masters. I heard good stories bout joining the NAVY. All this while, I never had the exposure on career with the military. All in my mind was WAR & WAR. But its more than that actually. It’s the life of an army official actually…. the sea would be the playground ( not relating to me fishing hobby k ) and the battleship would be the home ….the passion to become  a NAVY Official…. and if I die, I would die as a MARTYR!!

My late uncle was a navy official but he died in a road accident when I was 7 yrs old…another one died due to hepatitis…

Back to the issue….my family members were not supportive at all for me to give it a shot for the selection and interview…no doubt that I had to take leave for 10 days…

Mama said “ Perlu ke pergi? Tak payah lah”……. Kakak said ”ahhh jangan nak mengada..takde keje lain ke?” Ayah said  ” buat apa?”

Few friends supported…I was thinking of just go for it….this is the only chance…my age getting older ….i know I have the characteristic to be in the military…my discipline level is high…im strict in some ways but linen in some ways as well…

But  I believe that without the blessing from parents, I’m going nowhere even if i got the job….therefore, I shall just sacrifice it unfortunately…. Pretty sad actually to forgone something that you want….but that’s life ….we cant get whatever we want…. Well God knows whats best for me….

But one day if I have children, I would definitely encourage them to join military as their career…at least one of them shall become an “ADMIRAL” and stand with full of pride on armada KD Mahawangsa

But its still not too late for me…I may join the RMN Reserve Unit while holding to a full time career…

sighhhhhh!!!
